General
Catholic Charities USA is the membership association of one of the nation's largest social service networks. Catholic Charities agencies and institutions nationwide provide vital social services to people in need, regardless of their religious, social, or economic backgrounds. Catholic Charities USA supports and enhances the work of its membership by providing networking opportunities, national advocacy and media efforts, program development, training and technical assistance, and financial support.
The United Way invests in and activates the resources to make the greatest possible impact in communities across America. The United Way movement includes approximately 1,400 community-based United Way organizations. Each is independent, separately incorporated, and governed by local volunteers.

Government
An online screening tool to help determine, anaonymously, to what benefits a person may be entitled. It is free, easy-to-use, and completely confidential. The user answers a series of questions, and then GovBenefits.gov returns a list of government benefit programs you may be eligible to receive along with information about how you can apply.
The Department of Health and Human Services' Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program provides assistance and work opportunities to needy families by granting states the federal funds and wide flexibility to develop and implement their own welfare programs.
Maintained by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, the Medicaid Site for Consumer Information includes links providing information about state medicaid programs.

An article titled "Building Your Budget" located at Kinplinger.com. Allows a user to create and maintain a budget using worksheets. The page makes the concepts easy to understand and the worksheets do the math.

Credit Counseling
DebtAdvice.org is a service provided by the members of the National Foundation for Credit Counseling (NFCC). This site is designed to help consumers to understand the wise use of credit and locate a certified counselor if they need assistance.
Consumer Counseling Centers of America, Inc. (CCCA) is a national non-profit educational and social service organization serving the financial needs of working families whose main organizational objectives are to attempt to assist every consumer improve their credit standing and to provide useful information pertaining to credit issues. Their Bill Consolidation and Debt Management Program assist clients communicate with their creditors in a timely manner and eliminate collection calls at home and at work, thereby avoiding lawsuits and wage garnishment; avoid bankruptcy by establishing a plan of repayment to all creditors based upon the families income and living expenses; and obtain perfect credit and overcome the obstacles created by a negative past credit history. Participation in the Bill Consolidation and Debt Management Program is subject to a minimum monthly charge of $10.
Credit Counseling Centers of America is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization specializing in credit counsing for individuals and families and offers a debt consolidation program to those in need. The debt consolidation program is free or low-cost based on state laws and financial situation.

Vital Records
Most programs, government or private, require birth certificates and/or other vital documents. This web page, which is part of the Center for Disease Control, provides the addresses for the state agencies from which these documents can be obtained.
